With the building work having started on the Canolfan S4C Yr Egin at The University of Wales Trinity Saint David, the hope is that Carmarthen town will develop into a dynamic media centre for west Wales.
It’s therefore an apt time for the town of Carmarthen to host the S4C Viewers' Evening when local people will be able to meet S4C executives and Authority members. The evening is being held on Thursday, 25 May at 7.00pm at Ystafell Cothi, Halliwell Centre, The University of Wales Trinity Saint David.
S4C Authority Chair, Huw Jones, S4C Chief Executive Ian Jones and members of the Authority and the commissioning team will be there to discuss S4C programmes and services.
Would you like to see more programmes for people who live locally in Carmarthenshire? Do you like our sports coverage? Would you like to see more drama on the channel? Is the service for learners and the subtitles provision adequate? And are there enough services online?
These are the kind of questions you can ask in an open and frank discussion between you, S4C officers and Authority members.
S4C Authority Chair, Huw Jones, said, "With S4C relocating its headquarters in the town next year, we’re looking forward to hearing what the people of the area think of S4C’s programmes and services. The county is already a base for many productions and producers and its people and communities have inspired many of the channel’s most memorable productions over the years. We hope that television and film production in the area will continue to grow after the S4C headquarters moves to the town.”
A wide range of S4C programmes and series are filmed in Carmarthenshire. S4C and the BBC recently began filming a coproduction in the town of Laugharne. Drama series Un Bore Mercher/Keeping Faith, a Vox Pictures production for S4C, will be filming in the area for the coming months and the series is set for broadcast in November this year.
Among the series regularly broadcast from Carmarthenshire are the S4C daily magazine shows Heno and Prynhawn Da at the Tinopolis studios in Llanelli.
Everyone is welcome to come to S4C Viewers' Evening. Light refreshments will be available, and translation equipment and a loop system will be provided for those who need them. You can contribute to the discussion in the Welsh and English language.
