Back of the net! Online matches and Friday night football on Sgorio for 2017/18 WPL fixtures
23 June 2017
S4C’s flagship football show Sgorio has announced its first raft of live televised Welsh Premier League (WPL) matches for the 2017/18 season, as well as some additional matches which will be shown exclusively online.
Between the start of the season and the end of September, Sgorio, S4C and the Football Association of Wales (FAW) have selected matches from different competitions to be shown live on various platforms.
During the first block of games Sgorio will be experimenting with live televised games on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, as well as showing additional WPL matches online on Thursday nights.
The Sgorio season will start on Sunday, 13 August with a trip to Jenner Park as newly-promoted Barry Town host Aberystwyth Town in their first match in the top flight since 2004. On the following Saturday, 19 August, champions The New Saints will welcome Bala Town to Park Hall live on S4C.
S4C will show live Friday night football from the WPL for the first time ever on 25 August, when Bangor City go head-to-head with last season’s Huws Gray Alliance champions, Prestatyn Town, at the Bangor University Stadium.
The attention will turn to the international fixtures at the start of September with Wales’ double header against Austria (02/09) and Moldova (05/09) both live on S4C.
Sandwiched between the two World Cup qualifiers will be a live Irn-Bru Cup second round fixture as TNS and Connah’s Quay both join the competition on Sunday, 3 September.
On Thursday, 7 September, Llandudno v Prestatyn will be available to watch live on our website or on Facebook Live. The match between Barry Town and Carmarthen Town will also be streamed live on the web on Thursday, 21 September. Two days later, on Saturday, 23 September, Aberystwyth Town will battle with Bangor City live on S4C at Park Avenue.
