Follow Wales’ China Cup adventure with BBC Wales and S4C

01 February 2018

With Wales taking part in the China Cup in March, fans at home will be able to follow the team with live match coverage and highlights on BBC One Wales and S4C.

Manager Ryan Giggs will be in charge of his first match as Wales take on China at the Guangxi Sports Center in Nanning, in the semi-final of the competition on Thursday, March 22.

Live match coverage will be broadcast on BBC One Wales, BBC Radio Wales, BBC Radio Cymru, and online, with kick off at 11.35am. Extended match highlights will be featured on S4C later on the same day.

Uruguay and the Czech Republic will contest the other semi-final the following day.

The competition reaches its conclusion on Monday, 26 March, with the winners of both semi-finals facing each other in the final, while the two losing semi-finalists will play against each other in the third place play-off.

Wales’ second match will be broadcast live on S4C, with English commentary also available through the red button service, with BBC Radio Wales, BBC Radio Cymru and BBC online services also bringing live coverage.

Kick off for the third-place play-off will be at 8.35am, while the final gets underway at 12.35pm. Extended match highlights will be shown later that day on BBC Wales television.

Clips and highlights of the games will also be available on the BBC Wales Sport and BBC Cymru Fyw websites.

BBC Wales will be producing the coverage.

Geoff Williams, Head of Sport at BBC Wales said: "Wales’ journey to China is an exciting new opportunity and I’m pleased that BBC Wales and S4C will be able to take viewers with us on the adventure.

"It’s set to be an incredible experience, and as Ryan Giggs leads the national team into a game for the very first time since becoming manager, and through our television, radio and online provision, we’ll make sure that that supporters and audiences don’t miss a minute of the action."

Sue Butler, S4C's Sports Commissioner, said: "Not everyone will be able to travel to the other side of the world to follow Wales in the China Cup, and we're delighted to be able to show the games for those at home.

"The China Cup is a new venture for the national team and it's great that we can continue our support as the team enters a new era."
