S4C productions take Silver and Bronze medals at the 2018 New York International Festival Awards

11 April 2018

Three S4C's productions have once again received international praise by winning medals at the 2018 New York Festival Awards.nnDrama series Bang and documentaries Hen Blant Bach and Colli Dad: Siarad am Hynna impressed the international jury of judges among applications from over 40 countries.nnDocumentary Hen Blant Bach, a Darlun production, won a silver medal in the Community Portraits category. The series showed an innovative social experiment - the first of its kind to be shown on television – that was held in care centres across Wales as nursery children share their day care with pensioners - and the potential transformational effects it can have.nnS4C's first bilingual drama, Bang, won a bronze medal in the Crime Drama category. The production by Joio and Artists Studio is written by BAFTA award-winning author Roger Williams. It follows the story of a young man, Sam, whose life changes when he comes into possession of a gun. nnAnd the documentary Colli Dad: Siarad am Hynna has won a bronze medal in the Social Issues category. In this powerful and personal film, Stephen Hughes talks about his father's suicide in an attempt to understand why we find it so difficult to talk about mental health issues and suicide. nnS4C's Creative Content Director Amanda Rees said; "Congratulations to all the companies on their success. With a competition from over 40 countries, it proves that S4C's productions are among the best in the world. Our documentaries have been of the highest international standard for some years, but a Bronze Medal to the Bang shows that the talented we have in Wales is second to none and that S4C's boldness in commissioning quality drama pays off.”nnThe three productions are also hoping for an award at the Celtic Media Festival this year after being included among S4C’s nine nominations for the Festival Awards. The Celtic Media Festival is held in Llanelli between 2 and 4 May.nnEndsn n
