Tickets have gone on sale for a fun-filled orchestral extravaganza to celebrate the 10th birthday of S4C children's service Cyw.
This summer a series of special concerts suitable for pre-schoolers and young families will be presented as part of the National Eisteddfod week (4 -11 August) at BBC Hoddinott Hall in Wales Millennium Centre, Cardiff.
It will star BBC National Orchestra of Wales and a host of popular Cyw characters as they perform colourful orchestral arrangements of popular children's songs and nursery rhymes.
The 45-minute children's concerts 'Cyw a'i Gerddorfa' – Cyw and Orchestra – will take place on Monday, 6 August at 13.30 and 15.30 and on Tuesday, 7 August at 13.30 and 15.30 (Tuesday, 15.30, is a relaxed show).
The Monday concerts will be filmed and broadcast later in the year on S4C.
The relaxed show on Tuesday at 15.30 will be suitable for children with autism, sensory and communication impairments and learning disabilities as well as individuals who are deaf, hard of hearing, blind and partially sighted.
BBC National Orchestra of Wales, which is celebrating its 90th birthday this year, is promising a show full of fun and magic.
Cyw characters taking part include Tref and Tryst, Dona Direidi, Ben Dant, Radli Miggins, Deian and Loli, as well as presenters Huw and Elin.
Michael Garvey, Director of BBC National Orchestra of Wales said, "I am delighted that the Orchestra is working with S4C to bring orchestral music to a whole new generation of music lovers as part of this year's National Eisteddfod in Cardiff Bay. This is the first time we have presented concerts for this age group and we are looking forward to welcoming families to our home in BBC Hoddinott Hall, for fun and adventure with Cyw and friends."
Sioned Wyn Roberts, S4C Content Commissioner, Children's Programmes, said, "We are delighted to announce this series of fun orchestral concerts for young children during National Eisteddfod week. It is an important part of our 10th birthday celebrations and I can't think of any better way to enjoy the birthday than in the company of the BBC National Orchestra of Wales."
