S4C Viewers’ Meeting to be held at Llandudno

19 October 2018

S4C recently televised the final of the Welsh Selection for the Junior Eurovision final at Venue Cymru in Llandudno, attracting a huge amount of interest and a vociferous crowd for an evening full of great music, high drama and excitement.

Next week, the broadcaster is set to hold a somewhat quieter, but just as interesting an evening at Venue Cymru as the channel's Chief Executive Owen Evans and Authority Chair Huw Jones and other Authority and staff members look forward to a frank and honest discussion about S4C's programmes and services.

The people of Llandudno and the area will have plenty of opportunity to share their opinions about S4C in a Viewers' Evening to be held at the Saint David's Room at Venue Cymru on Wednesday, 24 October, starting at 7.00pm.

There is a warm welcome for all to discuss everything from drama to entertainment, digital services to children's programmes, from sport to factual and Welsh learners' provision to youth stuff. Light refreshments will be served, and an English translation service and loop equipment available for those who need them.

S4C Authority Chairman, Huw Jones, says, "The S4C Viewers' Evenings are important because they allow us to meet viewers in their communities. They are an opportunity to find out what type of programmes viewers enjoy and what they would like to see more of on the channel in the future."

Some of S4C' new series such as the fitness challenge programme Ffit Cymru and the exciting history series Cynefin have been well received, but what other new series would you like to see on the channel? The drama Craith/Hidden was filmed locally in North Wales, but what other S4C drama series do you enjoy?

The National Eisteddfod is coming to the neighbouring town of Llanrwst next year, what do you think of the coverage? Local town club Llandudno Town FC feature regularly on S4C as part of our Welsh Premier League coverage on Sgorio, but what do you think of our sports services?

S4C Chief Executive Owen Evans said, "The channel has recently announced it will invest an additional £3 million in our digital services, so that we can provide a data and personalisation service tailored for individual viewers. We would like to hear people's views about enhancing and improving our digital services, as well as the core television service.

"Our short form online service HANSH mainly targeting the 16-34 age group has engaged a great deal of viewers, recording 4.9 million viewing sessions its first 12-month period, but we would like to hear how we can we improve online services for all age groups. We look forward to meeting you at Venue Cymru."
