Geraint Evans is S4C’s new News and Current Affairs Commissioner
S4C are pleased to announce that the new News and Current Affairs Commissioner is Geraint Evans. Geraint is at present Editor of Welsh Language Programmes at ITV Wales, and responsible for programmes such as Y Byd yn ei le, Y Byd ar Bedwar, Ein Byd and Cefn Gwlad.
Before being Editor of Welsh language programmes Geraint was Editor of Y Byd ar Bedwar and before that was a reporter on the current affairs series.
Brought up in Trawsfynydd, Llanbrynmair and Pontarddulais, Geraint lives in Idole on the outskirts of Carmarthen. He graduated in International Politics from Aberystwyth University before completing a post-graduate diploma in journalism from Cardiff University.
In welcoming his appointment S4C's Director of Content, Amanda Rees said: "It is fantastic to be able to welcome Geraint to our commissioning team after an illustrious career with HTV and then ITV Wales. He brings with him a wealth of experience in news and current affairs. Recently we have seen how Y Byd yn ei le has brought a new vision to our current affairs output and how the revamped Cefn Gwlad has succeeded."
Geraint Evans said: "I'll be leaving ITV Wales after many happy years. But this opportunity to lead on the provision of News and Current affairs at S4C is a new exciting challenge and I'm really looking forward to it. With all the uncertainty over Brexit, it's a time like no other for journalists, to scrutinise politicians and to hear the views of the people. I'm looking forward to working with the BBC, ITV and other producers to ensure that S4C viewers get the best provision possible."
Geraint will be starting in his new post in April 2019.
