Leah on for Wales record as international hockey comes to S4C
01 May 2019
Wales Hockey captain Leah Wilkinson is set to become Wales's most capped player next month and S4C cameras will be there to capture the occasion.
Wilkinson will likely surpass Paul Edwards' record of 157 appearances, when the women's national team face France in a three-test international series, starting 31 May.
S4C will be live streaming all three matches from the National Hockey Centre at Cardiff's Sophia Gardens, as Wales prepare for the European Hockey Championships later this summer.
The first test will be played on Friday 31 May, with pushback at 6.00pm, while the second gets underway at 5.00pm the following day, Saturday 1 June. The concluding test takes place at 11.00am on Sunday 2 June.
Coverage of all three matches will be streamed live on the S4C website, s4c.cymru, the S4C Chwaraeon Facebook page (with Welsh-language commentary), and the S4C Youtube page (with English-language commentary). Whisper Films will produce the coverage for S4C.
Leah Wilkinson, Wales captain, said: "I'm looking forward to the series and hopefully being in the position to break Paul's record. Hockey is my passion and I'll be forever grateful for all the brilliant memories playing for Wales.
"It's great that S4C are live-streaming our games against France and a real boost for our sport."
Ria Male, Hockey Wales CEO, said: "It is an important time for hockey in Wales as our women and men prepare for this year's Europeans and we thank S4C for boldly investing in us."
Sue Butler, S4C Sports Commissioner, said: "Hockey is a fast and exciting game and we're delighted to be bringing the sport to a wider audience."
