Auditors from the National Audit Office in London recently visited S4C HQ, Canolfan S4C Yr Egin in Carmarthen to begin the annual financial audit of the channel. The independent review into the channel published by the DCMS in March 2018 recommended that the Comptroller and Auditor General should be S4C's external auditor with the aim of improving transparency and parliamentary oversight.
This was the first fieldwork visit which followed numerous on-line meetings and collaborations. The NAO officials stayed locally in Carmarthen during their visit.
Sharon Winogorski, Chief Financial Officer at S4C said: "It's been great to welcome officials from the National Audit Office to our new Headquarters, Yr Egin, giving them a taste of life in West Wales! The Comptroller and Auditor General were appointed as our external auditors following a review in 2018 and we are pleased that they will work with us to ensure that we deliver our objectives in the most cost-effective way."
Lewis Knights, NAO Director responsible for S4C, said: "We are pleased to be undertaking S4C's annual audit and working with them in Carmarthen. As the only Welsh language channel, S4C occupies a unique position in UK broadcasting, and we look forward to broadening our experience by issuing our audit opinion in Welsh."
