Would you have an affair with your own husband? Sizzling new S4C drama begins filming

3 November 2020

Filming has begun on Fflam – a brand new drama which promises to heat up those cold February nights for S4C viewers.

The drama is being produced by Vox Pictures (Un Bore Mercher) and stars Gwyneth Keyworth (Hidden/Craith, Black Mirror, The Crown) and Richard Harrington (Hinterland/Y Gwyll).

Fflam (Flame) has been adapted from an original story by Gwenno Hughes who, along with Pip Broughton and Catrin Evans, is part of the team of writers who have scripted the drama.

Life is good for Noni and Deniz (Memet Ali Alabora) as they renovate their farmhouse and look forward to the future. Noni's best friend Malan (Mali Ann Rees) and Deniz's sister Ekin (Pinar Ogun), are also full of hope as their plans to have a child together become possible with Deniz agreeing to be a donor so he can be the father of their child.

The future looks bright until Noni sees a ghost from her past – her husband Tom, who was killed in a terrible fire in Edinburgh – or a man who looks very much like him.

Will Noni be able to resist temptation – or will she consider rekindling the relationship?

Each episode of Fflam will be 30 minutes long in contrast to the usual hour-long episodes of most S4C dramas.

Gwenllïan Gravelle, S4C's Drama Commissioner said: "Because of the restrictions and challenges brought about by Covid-19 it has been difficult for production companies to shoot dramas in the same way as before. Safe working guidelines mean that each production has to work with less people – both in front of and behind the camera."

"We wanted to experiment with a new format. Vox Pictures succeeded in creating the drama series Cyswllt for S4C at the beginning of lockdown and this worked really well with half hour episodes."

"Fflam is a very exciting production with a thrilling story, amazing actors and a compelling script – it's great to see high quality Welsh drama being created again."

Adrian Bates of Vox Pictures said: "Vox Pictures are delighted to be working with S4C again on this prestigious series that will undoubtedly follow the success of both Un Bore Mercher and Cyswllt. Producer Llyr Morus and director Judith Dine have recruited an impressive cast and crew that will deliver this compulsive story in such challenging times."

Fflam will be filmed in the Cardiff and Vale of Glamorgan area during November and December. The series begins on S4C in February.

Vox Pictures will be following all guidelines, legislation and protocols put in place by Welsh Government in order to ensure that filming is carried out safely.
