S4C is pleased to announce that Sioned Geraint is the channel's new Commissioner for Children and Learners.
Originally from Cardiff but now living in Efail Isaf, Sioned has over 30 years' experience working in the media. Having started her career in HTV's Department of Children and Entertainment she has since worked on a variety of children's programmes including Uned 5, Mosgito, Bord, Y Rhaglen Wirion 'Na, Stwffio, Step Inside for C'beebies and more recently Anifeiliaid Bach y Byd for Cyw.
As well as a bright career in children's television, Sioned also has extensive experience in Welsh learners programming. She was instrumental in establishing the iconic learner series, Cariad@iaith and was the producer of the popular Welsh in a Week series for many years.
Sioned is currently working as a freelance Series Producer and Senior Producer and has just finished working on the Welsh factual entertainment series Cymry ar Gynfas for S4C.
Sioned Geraint said:
"I feel very privileged to be offered this position and to join S4C's commissioning team. Being able to work in Welsh is something that is very important to me and very close to my heart. I look forward to building on the fantastic existing content and creating opportunities for the independent sector to create Welsh language content for different platforms. I have certainly come to understand the importance and power of children's broadcasting in the Welsh language since becoming a mother some years ago and I'm hoping to build on that in today's digital world. I'm really looking forward to getting started. "
Welcoming her appointment, S4C's Director of Content, Amanda Rees, said:
"It's great to be able to welcome Sioned to join our commissioning team after a hugely successful career in children's and learners' programme production. Sioned has been such a key part of some of S4C's most successful productions. I look forward to welcoming her."
Sioned will take up her new post in early September.
