In Cardiff Crown Court today, three people were sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of five year-old Logan Mwangi in Bridgend.
Logan's body was found in the river Ogmore on 31 July 2021.
In April, his mother, Angharad Williamson, stepfather John Cole and teenager Craig Mulligan - Logan's stepbrother, were convicted of murder. Williamson and Mulligan were also charged with perverting the course of justice.
Because of his age, Mulligan, could not be named for legal reasons, but following the sentencing today Mrs Justice Jefford ruled that reporting resrictions could be lifted, due to it being in the public interest.
It brings closure to a case described by one of the detectives leading the investigation as: "One of the worst cases I've worked on". Detective Sargeant Ed Griffith also stated: "This will live with me forever".
At 9.00pm tonight, DS Ed Griffith is one of several police officers to feature in an S4C documentary about the investigation, Llofruddiaeth Logan Mwangi (The murder of Logan Mwangi).
The programme sheds light on how South Wales Police sought justice for Logan, who had 56 injuries at the time of his death.
Some of the key pieces of evidence that allowed them to piece together what happened are shared with viewers, including footage from body-worn cameras, CCTV and police interviews.
It will show the moment all three defendants were arrested on suspicion of murder as well as never seen before footage of the teenager, Mulligan, being interviewed by police.
Craig Mulligan was sentenced to life detention with a minimum of 15 years, Angharad Williamson was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum of 28 years and John Cole was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum of 29 years before he is eligible for parole.
