S4C offers more than 40 hours of exclusive multi-platform coverage of the Royal Welsh Show

15 July 2022

Ahead of its 40th birthday later this year, Welsh broadcaster S4C is reaching out to audiences in the UK and worldwide with its extensive coverage from Europe's largest agricultural event, the Royal Welsh Show.

The event held in Builth Wells, Powys is back next week from Monday, 18 – Thursday, 21 July after a break of two years following Covid. S4C will offer exclusive coverage of the event on its many platforms with English subtitles and including live feeds on the channel's YouTube and Facebook pages.

The week's programmes will start at 7.30 on Sunday 17 July, with Rhagflas y Sioe (Preview of the Show), where viewers can enjoy the excitement of last minute preparations and a look forward to the event. This is followed at 8pm by S4C's religious and spiritual programme Dechrau Canu Dechrau Canmol, where audiences can join in Moliant y Maes, the pre-show religious service.

S4C's Y Sioe service will offer all-day coverage from the showground on S4C and BBC iPlayer with English subtitles and an additional live web feed from the main horse ring from 8am with commentary in English and Welsh on S4C YouTube and Facebook Y Sioe. In addition, there will be a special programme of highlights every evening at 9.00.

Content will also be available to view on BBC iPlayer and S4C's on demand service S4C Clic.

S4C Chief Executive Siân Doyle said: "I am absolutely thrilled that the Royal Welsh Show is back and that S4C will once again be broadcasting live from the Show. It is one of the biggest annual events in Wales and a major event in the British agricultural calendar – it attracts viewers and visitors from all over the world.

"It is also one of the main events in S4C's annual calendar so we're delighted to be able to offer such an amazing range of coverage to our viewers wherever in the world they may be and at a time to suit them."

Coverage of the show builds on the very best of S4C's wide range of rural and agricultural programmes including Cefn Gwlad, Ffermio, Cynefin and Am Dro, which reflect the rural life of Wales.

S4C will also be hosting several independent Welsh production companies giving viewers the chance to find out more about taking part in popular and award-winning shows.

Siân Doyle said: "We are very proud of S4C's popular rural and agricultural programmes which we show throughout the year – this will be an opportunity to showcase what we have to offer."

As well as being the only broadcaster to offer coverage of the Show, S4C will be holding a number of events during the four-day show including Cyw and Stwnsh shows for younger viewers.
