Today, S4C and the Welsh Government have launched a new app called Cwis Bob Dydd (Quiz Every Day). The app will include 10 questions every day and will run for a period of 12 weeks, with the chance to win great prizes every week.
Wicipedia Cymru and the National Library of Wales will provide resources for creating questions and the first season of the app will be sponsored by National Centre for Learning Welsh.
The Basque version of the app has already proven to be a great success with tens of thousands of daily players after three years.
An integral part of what makes Cwis Bob Dydd so unique compared to any other trivia quiz app is that each game is completely different from the next. The questions will cover a dynamic mix of topics including traditional quiz questions, some trivia, and some questions about Welsh culture.
Rhodri ap Dyfrig, S4C's Digital Content Transformation Lead, said:
"I'm very proud to launch the Cwis Bob Dydd app today and grateful to the Welsh Government for co-funding. This app will be an opportunity to attract new speakers and create positive noise around the language by increasing its daily use with innovative technology. Hopefully we can learn from the success of the app in Basque and create the same stir here in Wales."
Jeremy Miles, Minister for Education and Welsh Language, said:
"We want to encourage everyone to use whatever amount of Welsh they have every day. Cwis Bob Dydd is a fun opportunity to use more Welsh every day – I'm proud to support and encourage people to take part."
