Viewers can choose to have Welsh subtitles on S4C's news programmes Newyddion S4C.

A Welsh subtitles option can be selected when watching TV and on S4C Clic when watching live and catch up.

Clips of subtitled news stories are also published on the Newyddion S4C app and website.

Newyddion S4C presenter Bethan Rhys Roberts said:

"I'm delighted that Newyddion S4C is offering the option to have subtitles on the programmes.

"This means more people can watch the programme, which brings viewers all the important news stories from Wales, Britain and the world.

"This will give the audience more opportunities to see the big stories that impact our lives through a Welsh lens."

This addition follows consultation with Welsh language learners to understand and respond to their viewing needs and habits.

S4C supports the Welsh Government's target to achieve one million Welsh speakers by 2050 and has recently published its Annual Report on Welsh Language Standards.

Newyddion S4C presenter Rhodri Llywelyn said:

"It's great that we can support new Welsh speakers in this way as they learn and improve their use of the language.

"Learners and those less confident in their Welsh, will be able to follow what is being said by reading and hearing, and understand the stories in greater detail as a result."

These changes will make it easier for everyone to use a little Welsh every day by watching Newyddion S4C with Welsh subtitles, or by going to the S4C website or the S4C Newyddion app and clicking on the Learn Welsh tab.

Newyddion S4C is a BBC Wales production for S4C and can be watched at 19:30 every weekday.
