5 Facts: George North

We're going deeper in to the Welsh camp to bring you 5 facts about 3 different players. Our first of the 3 is Northampton Saints 'monster', George North.

George North

1. Llandovery College

Llandovery College, who feature on our Wednesday night S4C show 'Rygbi Pawb' Rygbi: Cwpan y Byd a Mwy have had the pleasure of having George North in one of their jerseys. After attending Ysgol Uwchradd Bodedern, in Anglesey, North made the trek further down south to Llandovery where he spent his late teenage years.

2. Rugby World Cup History

In the 2011 Rugby World Cup, North put his name in the history books, becoming the youngest player ever to score a try at a Rugby World Cup, aged just 19 years and 166 days. This beat the previous record set by Australian Joe Roff.

3. Youngest Player to get a brace

No… I don't mean the ones in your mouth… North aged 18 years 214 days, became the youngest ever to score a try on his debut for Wales. He stole the record from Tom Pearson (18 years 238 days) who scored against England in 1891.

4. Hat Trick

George has only scored 1 hat trick in international rugby. The 2015 Six Nations was exciting, as Wales, England and Ireland were within a chance of winning the RBS Six Nations Championship. However a certain amount of points had to be scored to secure that. Wales hammered the Italians 61-20 in Rome where North scored his hat trick, but unfortunately Wales didn't get enough points to win the Championship.

5. 50 Caps

In the 2015 RBS Six Nations Championship, North became the youngest player to get 50 international caps (47 for Wales, 3 for the Lions) at the age of 22. No player has ever achieved that. In a recent Rugby World Cup warm up match, North reached 50 caps for Wales, again the youngest ever player to do so.
